About our audits

What does the FitSafe audit include?

A FitSafe audit includes an on-site inspection of the facility, a review of key safety systems and documentation, and a formal report outlining findings, risks, and recommended actions. The audit focuses on practical, real-world safety considerations specific to fitness environments.

What ares of the facility are typically reviewed?

Audits commonly cover the physical environment, equipment areas, emergency exits and signage, access and egress points, operational practices, and relevant safety documentation. The exact scope may vary depending on the facility type and operating model.

Are there things FitSafe does not cover as part of an audit?

FitSafe provides advisory safety audits and does not act as a certifying authority or replace legal advice. Where issues fall outside the audit scope, these are clearly noted in the report.

How can the audit report be used?

Reports can be used internally to guide improvements, support staff training, inform maintenance planning and demonstrate a proactive approach to safety.

On-site inspections

How long does an on-site inspection usually take?

Most on-site inspections take between one and three hours, depending on the size and complexity of the facility.

Will the audit disrupt members or classes?

Audits are planned to minimise disruption. Where possible, inspections can be scheduled outside peak times or around classes, and most assessments can be completed without interrupting normal operations.

Do staff need to be present during the inspection

Staff presence is helpful but not always required for the full duration. Access to key areas and basic operational knowledge is usually sufficient.

Documentation & preparation

What information or documents do we need to provide?

This may include existing safety policies, emergency plans, incident reports, maintenance logs, and staff training or induction records. If documentation is incomplete or unavailable, this is noted as part of the audit.

What if we don't currently have all documentation in place?

That’s common. The audit helps identify gaps and provides guidance on what documentation should exist, without requiring everything to be in place beforehand.-

Do you help identify what documentation needs updating?

Yes. Where documents are outdated or unclear, this is highlighted in the report with practical recommendations.

Is FitSafe a certifying or governing body?

No. FitSafe provides independent safety audits and recommendations but does not certify facilities or replace regulatory authorities.

After the audit

What does the audit report include?

The report outlines findings from the inspection and review, explains why each issue matters, and provides prioritised recommendations to address risks and improve safety.

How are the issues prioritised in the report?

Findings are prioritised based on risk and impact, helping operators focus first on higher-risk or higher-importance items.

What support is available after the report is delivered?

FitSafe can provide clarification, guidance on next steps, and follow-up or re-audit services where required.

Practical considerations

How far in advance do audits need to be booked?

Booking lead times vary depending on availability, but FitSafe aims to accommodate operators where possible.

What types of facilities are best suited to FitSafe's services?

FitSafe works with gyms, studios, 24/7 facilities, apartment and hotel gyms, and other fitness environments where operators are responsible for safety.

Can we contact you anytime?

Yes, you can contact us anytime with questions you may have regarding our services. Although do note, this service is designed around scheduled audits rather than ongoing daily contact.
